The Studio
Louise Madzia is a UK-based artist and designer specialising in ceramics. Her work is deeply rooted in drawing and uses clay as a canvas to create different compositions. Originally studying illustration, she began attending ceramics evening classes in 2011 and became obsessed with the possibilities and tactility of the medium, eventually establishing her practice in 2015.
In addition to making one-off pieces, she has created collections for luxury retailers globally, including Browns Fashion, Printemps and Hyundai Seoul. She has also worked with factories in the heart of the potteries in Stoke-on-Trent to design slip-cast collections. Beyond ceramics, she has created artwork for global brands.

Her studio is located in Camden, North London, close to Camden Town, Camden Road and Regent's Park. The workshop building also houses other talented artists and creatives. It's a lovely creative sanctuary away from the chaos of Camden.
As well as producing all her new work from here using various handmade techniques, Louise also hosts a weekly ceramics class and offers private classes on request in this cosy creative space.

Pieces are all made in-house using coiling and slab-building techniques and hand-painted decoration. They are then fired in the kiln and glazed by hand. Louise mainly uses earthenware clay for its flexibility and its off-white colour is a perfect blank canvas for decoration.
Louise works primarily with earthenware clay, chosen for its warmth and workability. Each piece is hand-decorated using underglazes and slips before being bisque fired, glazed, and fired again. The process is slow and deliberate — every mark is made by hand.
